  • Advancing AI Commerce with Mechs Integration

A Strategic Partnership: Production Launch Announcement Zug/Lisbon, 1.02.2024 - Valory and Nevermined are excited to announce the successful integration of Nevermined's decentralized AI commerce solutions into Mechs, the permissionless marketplace for AI skills. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our shared vision of a future where AI is autonomous and co-owned and ensures Olas autonomous agents are empowered with flexible and dynamic AI commerce capabilities. Building the Infrastructure for an Autonomous Future At the forefront of autonomous (AI) agent development, Valory has not only pioneered the development of tools for creating decentralized autonomous agents by co-creating Olas in 2021, they were also the first to build such agents. So far, these autonomous agent services have generated over 300k transactions across 4 major blockchains: Ethereum, Solana, Gnosis and Polygon. The introduction of Mechs was a key milestone, providing agents with efficient access to a wide range of off-the-shelf AI tools. This development eliminated the need for complex dealings with API providers and the creation of custom business logic for AI interactions. Nevermined has been pioneering in their own right. Their cutting edge work on decentralized AI orchestration, price discovery and marketplaces led to the development of their decentralized AI commerce solutions. With its product offering, Nevermined enables an AI Agent’s ability to manage and control the variable costs incurred from dynamic AI service usage in an accurate and transparent manner, thus ensuring each agent's economic productivity. By adopting Nevermined’s AI payments protocol, networks like Olas can support the rapid growth of AI services and the commercial independence of their agents. This integration is a testament to our joint commitment to developing infrastructure that fosters autonomy and adaptability in autonomous agents. Mechs: A Marketplace for AI Skill Enhanced by Flexible Payments With over 100,000 Mech requests fulfilled, Mechs is fast becoming a cornerstone in the Olas ecosystem, facilitating informed decision-making and addressing the challenges faced by autonomous agents in managing multiple APIs. However, with a one-size-fits-all pricing model, the service failed to account for the varied complexity across its toolset, resulting in either overcharging or undercharging for agent’s requests. Through the integration with Nevermined’s AI payments system, Mechs evolves into a more versatile platform, enabling agents to access AI tools with flexibility in pricing. "We believe that the variable pricing model we've introduced to Olas is an absolute game changer", says Nevermined CEO, Don Gossen. "Using our Smart Subscriptions tech, Nevermined ensures that Mechs can adapt to the true cost of AI tools and meet both the complexity and specificity of each agent's request. The result is a much more efficient use of resources within the ecosystem, and, ultimately, better Agentic service offerings overall." Forging the Path for AgentFi This collaboration between Valory and Nevermined is a strategic enhancement of Mechs, and by extension the Olas ecosystem, helping to pave the way for a future where autonomous agents can use flexible payments to thrive in their environments. As we look towards this future, both Valory and Nevermined remain committed to adding valuable contributions to the Olas ecosystem, ensuring that autonomous agents become more capable, adaptable, and integral to our digital and economic worlds. • The Trinity of Convergence – Co-ownable, Agentic AIs As Outcome Generators

How the three-part evolutions of the web, AI, and UX herald a new technological age We see a convergence taking place between three strands of digital technology and experience, each undergoing three phases in their evolution: The web, moving from read -> write -> own AI, moving from rule-based -> learning -> agentic, and UX, moving from viewing -> interacting -> outcomes As these strands converge, a new paradigm of technology emerges. A new paradigm, characterized by truly autonomous systems and experiences. In this post, we explore the three-part evolution of each strand, their ultimate convergence, and the new class of products they enable. 1. Evolution of the Web: read -> write -> own The web has gone through multiple evolutions since its inception. The early phase of the internet, now often referred to as Web 1.0, was characterized by static web pages that offered content for users to read. Information during this phase mostly flowed from content creators to users, leading to a one-way interaction whereby the user mostly consumed this static content with limited ability to interact with it. The web presented itself as an extension of traditional media like magazines, newsletters, and books. Most sites were hosted by professionals or semi-professionals. Occasionally, hobbyists might host a personal static site. Around the mid 2000s interactive and social features started to emerge, adding the ‘write’ aspect to the web. Users were empowered to create and share their own content. The platforms that emerged included social networking, blogs, wikis, and video-sharing sites. With the democratization of content creation, an explosion of content followed, culminating today in an estimated 500 hours of video being uploaded to YouTube every minute. The way we interacted with the web became more dynamic. Sharing and collaboration became key features of the web. With the arrival of decentralized technologies like blockchain, it became possible for users to ‘own’ their personal data, contributions, and digital assets. Through permissionless and trustless networks, users can retain increased sovereignty. Where in Web 2.0 the user is often the product of a large corporation, in Web 3.0 the user is set to regain control. From passive consumers of content in Web 1.0, to active contributors in Web 2.0, to owners of their data and digital assets in Web 3.0, this progression signifies a move towards a more interactive, collaborative, and decentralized internet. 2. Evolution of AI: rule-based -> learning -> agentic We argue that we can observe a similar three-part evolution in AI. In the earliest phase of artificial intelligence (AI), roughly from the 50s to the 80s, rule-based systems gained prominence. These systems operated on a set of predefined rules and logic to make decisions. Examples include Chess computers and the first AI chatbot, Eliza. Due to the need to define rules for all possible scenarios, these systems were limited and inflexible – their creations were expensive. A new type of AI, ‘Learning AI’ found increasing attention in the late 20th and then particularly in the early 21st century. Machine learning, and later deep learning, introduced a paradigm shift: rather than hard coding all its rules, the system could now learn information and derive its own rules from data. These systems found a wide application, from pattern recognition to predictions and speech recognition. This phase was fueled both by algorithmic advancements (backpropagation, transformers, etc.) and hardware improvements (including more computational power, specialized GPUs, and more data storage capabilities). We would argue that this phase has culminated with the arrival of large language models (LLMs). Now, with the phenomenal rise and proliferation of LLMs, we believe the future of artificial intelligence is increasingly likely to be agentic. ‘Agentic AI’ involves AI systems that exhibit a degree of agency, autonomy, and the ability to not only make decisions but also then enact them, in complex, unpredictable environments. Agentic AI systems will often involve many AI subsystems like Natural Language Processing (NLP), computer vision, and autonomous decision making. As agentic AI systems receive new information and interact with their environment they can improve and adapt. Self-initiated actions are one of the key distinguishing features from pure AI models. To summarize, we argue AI has evolved from rule-based systems to learning systems, and now towards agentic AI, representing increasing complexity, adaptability, and autonomy. 3. Evolution of UX: viewing -> interacting -> outcomes Alongside the Web and AI, we argue user experience has witnessed a three-part evolution, too. As discussed above, during the early days of the internet (known as Web 1.0) and when personal computers first became popular, most people used them mainly for looking at or reading content. Consequently, the design of websites and computer programs (user interfaces or UIs) was basic and didn't offer much room for users to interact or change things to their liking. They were mostly designed for users to read them like books or magazines. A lot of attention was given to organizing information clearly and making these websites easy to use. As we have seen, the rise of Web 2.0 and mobile devices led to user-generated content, which led to more interaction and engagement-oriented User Experience (UX). Dynamic content, user-generated content, interactive media, and responsive UI design became the norm, all geared towards increasing user participation in an intuitive and joyful context. User journeys became a core focus of design considerations. Now, we believe we are entering a new phase characterized by autonomous experiences. Such experiences will include products with unprecedented degrees of personalization and end-user value generation. This phase will orbit around a novel class of product that we call ‘outcomes’. Outcomes here means complex, fully-packaged value delivered to a user based on their requirements, by an agentic AI system. Real-world examples of such ‘outcomes’ have existed for decades. For example, take bespoke travel agencies: rather than writing you an itinerary, they take your requirements, select from a range of transport, accommodation, and experiences, and book and pay for those packages for you. As more and more services are digitized and made accessible, incorporating AI, it becomes possible to harness agentic AI to create software agents that deliver this kind of value across many types of industry, from finance to health and relationships. Personalization of outcomes is further increased when these products evolve to anticipate users’ desires and make them a reality before you even have to ask for them. As personalization increases, it will be more important than ever that users have ownership of the systems that create outcomes for them. The UX evolution – from enabling viewing, to interacting, to entire outcomes – will yield increasingly sophisticated and personalized digital experiences. The apex product At Valory, we believe that this convergence of trends in UX, Web, and AI is not merely academic, but ushers in a new age of digital experiences: co-owned agentic AI systems that create desirable outcomes for us. Olas is already doing just that. If you want to get a glimpse of this future, then run your co-ownable AI agent today.

  • Building the Infrastructure for an Autonomous Future: Mechs and Flexible Agent Payments

Valory and Nevermined are collaborating to enhance Mechs with AI commerce solutions. Crypto’s market for AI skills now supports dynamic, agent-friendly payment solutions. Introduction As part of its ongoing commitment to lay the groundwork for a co-owned, autonomous future, Valory is collaborating with Nevermined to integrate its AI commerce solutions into the Mech, particularly focusing on variable payment systems. This move enhances Olas's robust infrastructure, which has been instrumental in molding a growing world where autonomous agents can flourish. By addressing the need for adaptable pricing models, this collaboration marks a significant stride in the evolution of AI agents, ensuring they can navigate and transact in their environments with unprecedented efficiency and autonomy. This is particularly important, given Valory believes the future of Artificial General Intelligence will likely be agentic. Building on a Legacy of Innovation Valory has long been pioneering the landscape of autonomous services, laying down critical building blocks for an agent-enabled world. From developing Open Autonomy, a robust framework for creating agent-powered services, to co-creating the Olas on-chain protocol, that incentivizes and streamlines their development and operation, the Olas ecosystem has the core infrastructure necessary for a future enriched by autonomous agents. This effort is yielding tangible results, with over 77% of Safe transactions on Gnosis Chain this month triggered by Olas-powered autonomous services. However, over the past few months, it has become clear that two new infrastructure components are core to unlocking the potential of agents: easy access to AI tools and solutions for agents to pay for those tools. The Mech: A Permissionless Marketplace for AI Skills The AI agent landscape is rapidly transforming with the advent of Large Language Models (LLMs). These models edge AI agents closer to human-like reasoning, expanding their decision-making horizon. However, the current capacity of AI agents remains bottlenecked. For instance, tools like autoGPT reveal that agents still require the management of multiple APIs to function effectively, often depending on human intervention for setup and payment. This limits their true autonomous potential. To address these limitations, Valory introduced Mechs, a piece of Olas-powered infrastructure designed to empower agents. Mechs serves as an aggregator of AI tools, seamlessly providing agents access to a diverse array of cognitive tasks. Agents no longer need to juggle multiple APIs; instead, they can tap into a unified source of AI tools and models, unlocking their ability to take truly autonomous actions in their environment. What's more, agents can directly pay for these services using cryptocurrency, bypassing the need for human financial management. You can imagine Mechs as a brain for hire. With over 81,000 requests fulfilled, Mechs is becoming a cornerstone in facilitating clear and informed decision-making for agents in diverse domains. This innovative tool has been instrumental in guiding trader agents to make meaningful future predictions. Governatooorr, the AI-powered DAO governance delegate, leverages Mechs to review and evaluate proposals, judging and submitting the voting action it deemed to best represent its delegatees' interests. Additionally, Contribute, the AI-ified, co-owned DAO ops tool, harnesses Mechs tools to assess the impact of tweets to decide how to distribute points to community members. Mechs addresses a critical need in the agent ecosystem: the ability to outsource complex decision-making processes. Whether it's evaluating DAO proposals, analyzing the impact of social media content, or making predictive analyses, the Mech provides agents with the cognitive tools they need to operate autonomously and effectively. Transitioning to Flexible Payment Solutions However, Mechs faces a payments challenge. A one-size-fits-all pricing model fails to account for the varied complexity across its toolset, resulting in either overcharging or undercharging for agent requests. Recognizing this issue, Valory is joining forces with Nevermined to implement a flexible pricing model for agent services like Mechs. This innovative approach will enable prices to dynamically adjust to the specific requirements of each agent, promoting more efficient and equitable agent-to-agent interactions. This move is key to fostering an environment where autonomous agents can not only operate but also continuously adapt and thrive, paving the way for agentic Artifical General Intelligence Conclusion: Forging a Path for AgentFi Through these innovations, Olas is not simply an ocean of agent services – it provides wave after wave of infrastructure and building blocks to enable a future where autonomous agent-based AI helps humankind prosper. Mechs, as a market for AI skills, and the flexible payment solutions are the latest prime examples of Valory’s commitment to helping Olas grow and scale to realize this vision. As we look towards this future, Valory intends to continue adding useful code to the Olas ecosystem, making autonomous agents more capable, adaptable, and integral to our digital and economic worlds. As the premier creator of open-source frameworks for co-owned (agentic) AI, Valory is proud to be not only a  participant but a key architect in crafting the very foundations upon which this new world will be built.

  • Staker Expeditions: Everest - Embarking on the First Descent

The launch of Everest marks the first phase of Staker Expeditions. As a response to Olas DAO's AIP-1, Staker Expeditions is Valory’s program to safely implement staking within the Olas Ecosystem. Everest, named for its challenging nature, invites a select group of 10 pioneers on the journey of accumulating OLAS staking rewards for the first time. To participate, you will be required to stake your Trader Agent service NFT complete with a total of 50 OLAS on Gnosis Chain*. Rewards can be accumulated provided that your Trader Agent service on Gnosis Chain meets the Proof of Active Agent** conditions. This post explains the details of the Everest phase and how to become one of the very first OLAS stakers, seizing a potential APR of up to 104.28%. Understanding Olas Staking: Proof of Active Agent (PoAA) Valory is proposing a unique staking system for Olas that rewards dynamic and ongoing engagement from stakers’ autonomous agents, i.e. passive staking of an asset or minimal effort of the agent isn’t sufficient to trigger rewards. Specifically, Valory has pioneered ‘Proof of Active Agent’, a novel reward mechanism that combines elements of both Proof of Work and Proof of Stake incentive systems, incentivizing autonomous agents for their contributions within a larger multi-agent system of agents. Comprehensive details will be provided in a forthcoming Litepaper. In simple terms, this validation approach ensures that agents making up a service are eligible for staking rewards when they consistently operate off-chain, actively engaging in maintaining and executing actions aligned with the service objectives. This mechanism highlights agents’ proactive involvement in service operations. In the Everest phase, we focus on the Trader Agent Service comprising a single autonomous agent. The trader agent is a service for trading in prediction markets. It executes requests to the AgentMech contract and creates new transactions when investment decisions are made. To ensure that the trader agent remains consistently engaged and fulfills its active role, the following criteria must be met. For each liveness period, which lasts at least one day, a liveness check is performed. This check verifies that the trader agent’s service multisig executes a specific number of AgentMech requests within a predefined time frame, which is currently set at a minimum of 10 AgentMech requests a day to qualify for the staking rewards. When the time corresponding to a liveness period passes, a checkpoint can be called by anyone to trigger the liveness check, calculate the rewards to the eligible services, and trigger the next liveness period***. The good news: a staker whose funded agent runs continuously should automatically meet the Proof of Active Agent requirements. Everest Staking Expedition Everest is reserved for 10 exclusive Trader Agents. Participants are required to hold a minimum of 50 OLAS on Gnosis Chain and some XDAI**** to start becoming entitled to receive a share of 10 OLAS over the course a week. This may translate to a highly attractive APR of up to 104.28%, per service, provided that agents maintain activity throughout the week. Participation is permissionless, yet only a maximum of 10 agents can successfully stake at any given time. If none of these initial 10 agents choose to unstake, no additional agents will be able to stake. Hence only those first 10 agents which successfully stake and pass the liveness check will qualify for staking rewards. Your Passport to Becoming an OLAS Staker Make sure you have the system and resource requirements as well as 50 OLAS on Gnosis to stake. Execute the following commands, then follow the instructions in the script as they come up. These include providing your RPC and funding wallets created by the script. git clone https://github.com/valory-xyz/trader-quickstart.git cd trader-quickstart chmod +x run_service.sh && ./run_service.sh --with-staking At this stage, you'll have staked your trader agent service NFT in the staking contract, deposited OLAS as both a bond and a security deposit*****, and activated an agent that trades for you on Omen prediction markets. Visit the trader-repository for more information on the off-chain trader agent and check the trader-quickstart repository for more detailed instructions. After each liveness period (marked by calling the checkpoint() function), as long as your agent passes the liveness check, your service multisig should be entitled to the corresponding OLAS rewards. If active for the full week, the service can receive up to a total of 1 OLAS (up to 104.28% APR on the 50 OLAS stake). Note that the rewards can last at least one week. In the case where fewer than 10 services are participating or fewer than 10 services remain active across multiple liveness periods, rewards may extend beyond the initial one-week period, enabling active services to continue accumulating rewards. Lastly, it’s important to emphasize that the rewards earned by a service are transferred to the service multisig upon unstaking. Dive into Everest and kickstart your OLAS staking expedition in the #🎒–staker–expeditions channel on Discord: https://discord.gg/RHY6eJ35ar Asterisks * OLAS can be acquired on Gnosis Chain using OLAS-WXDAI pool through the Balancer interface. ** Comprehensive details on the Proof of Active Agent mechanism will be provided in a forthcoming Litepaper. *** The checkpoint() can be called via Gnosisscan as soon as the liveness period has elapsed. If you would like to call the function make sure your agent has made threshold Mech transactions before doing so. **** Both the service owner and operator wallets, which may or may not be the same, should be funded with a minimum of 25 OLAS bridged on Gnosis. Additionally, they should ensure they have a sufficient balance of xDAI, including at least 1 WEI for service deployment, and for covering gas fees. It is also necessary to adequately fund the service multisig with xDAI to cover the mech costs and investments of the trader agent. ***** To achieve deployment status for a service NFT within Autonolas Registries on the Gnosis chain, the process includes the activation of agent registration by the service owner and the registration of an agent instance by the operator. During this process, the operator has to stake a slashable amount of tokens, referred to as the "bond," in alignment with the service's configuration. Furthermore, to activate the agent's registration, the service owner is also required to provide a non-slashable security deposit amount of token. This deposit should be equivalent to the maximum bond set for agent registration. Disclaimer This article is provided for general information only. • Olas Staker Expeditions

Valory's program for bootstrapping Service Staking in the Olas ocean of services, with three daring phases, powered by autonomous agent technology. Olas Staker Expeditions Valory is launching Staker Expeditions, a testing program to safely bring staking to the Olas Ecosystem, as requested by Olas DAO in AIP-1. The program will consist of three focused periods and run throughout at least November, allowing for a safe and progressive rollout of incentivized staking capabilities to the Olas Ecosystem. Phases 1. Everest Everest is the highest risk-highest reward phase of Staking Expeditions, with participation limited to 10 early adventurers. Agent operators participating in this phase are true pioneers, risking it all! Be prepared to walk where no operator has ventured before! 2. Alpine Following early pioneers, who tested during the Everest phase, the Alpine phase is scaled up to more pioneers (50) and incentives slightly adjusted. A specific focus is put on fine-tuning staking parameters. Be prepared to spend long stretches without reward. 3. Coastal By the Coastal phase, the ocean of opportunities is in sight! Previous pioneers have caught the biggest bugs. That said, mind sudden cliffs and changes in weather conditions! The program is scaled up to 100 coastal dwellers, incentives are still juicy and reflect the nearing abundance. Be the last pioneers before mass adoption at sea! How Service Staking Works (ft. autonomous agent technology) Staking on Olas requires agent operators, individuals or entities operating autonomous agents in an autonomous service, to put up OLAS as a slashable stake and operate an autonomous software agent. Staker Expeditions will require agent operators to operate a trader agent on Gnosis Chain. Staking rewards for Staker Expeditions are sponsored by Valory. Once Staker Expeditions has successfully concluded, Olas DAO will have the opportunity to adopt the staking contracts via on-chain governance vote. Pioneers prepare! Further details for agent operators participating in Staker Expeditions will be announced shortly. Agent operators can prepare for Staker Expeditions by running a trader agent today, as part of the prediction market hackathon. Stay tuned for the launch of phase Everest - to be announced on Olas Discord!

Valory and Gnosis initiated a Prediction Agent hackathon on Olas and Gnosis Chain, centering on a Prediction Agent service that consumes Mechs. Users can run and adapt AI Agents that participate in prediction markets by evaluating and placing bets on real-world events. The hackathon has seen prizes from Gnosis, Valory and Kleros (announced below as they are awarded) and integrations with GetBlock, Kleros, The Graph, and more. During the hackathon, Olas broke 110k transactions, 160+ services, and $100k profits, and Olas AI Agents made the majority of Safe transactions on Gnosis Chain in September. This showed how Olas' AI agents can be brought in swarms as Daily Active Users for crypto projects, and led to co-founders of both Gnosis and Safe sharing Olas’ progress, predicting how AI agents would shape the future of crypto. Prize winners Gnosis Chain: Best Mech Tool 🥇 psouranis (@Sp_2795) adopted DeepMind's concept of Large Language Models as Optimizers to enhanced prompt generation, significantly improving the quality of model responses. 🥈 Nikcom007 introduced a system assigning Subject Matter Expert roles to AI, sharpening responses to market inquiries. This approach enhances the accuracy of responses from advanced models like GPT-3.5 and GPT-4. 🥉 jhehemann (@_Hamsteen_) integrated the OpenAI API with Google's search, distilling vast online content into relevant insights. This innovative tool constructs detailed prediction prompts, pinpointing the most likely outcomes from a plethora of data. Congratulations to the winners for their contributions to AI-driven prediction markets! But it doesn't end here - there are still prizes up for grabs.
