- Olas Agent Economies Unleash Synthetic Data
The first agent economy, Olas Predict, shows how agent economies create value for users and synthetic data for training future AI models and agent economies Olas Predict - a growing multi-agent system of hundreds of autonomous AI agents participating in prediction markets - has generated more than 773k transactions in just 11 months. And it’s accelerating rapidly. Valory created the first of these emerging multi-agent systems in crypto (which they call ‘agent economies’), and they expect more and more such economies to emerge with the upcoming launch of Olas Staking, a novel staking mechanism that rewards active agents for their contributions as measured in KPIs. Agent economies can provide not only valuable end-user benefits, like the prediction markets created by Olas Predict, but also generate synthetic data as a natural by-product.* Synthetic data rapidly emerging from autonomous AI agent economies is an exciting new resource for training AI models as well as more powerful agents. In this article, we explore the inaugural agent economy, Olas Predict, and agent economies more generally. We then dissect the data flywheel at the heart of these agent economies, that is set to drive a self-reinforcing cycle of agent improvements, before taking a look at potential novel agent economies enabled by Olas Staking. We aim to highlight how Olas agent economies create a virtuous cycle that benefits the staking participants, the Olas ecosystem and the broader AI and machine learning communities. Understanding Agent Economies AI agents are increasingly able to carry out analysis and simpler tasks for humans, but Valory have long been a proponent that more powerful autonomous agents will have to work together to achieve increasingly complex outcomes. We are strong believers in the rising dominance of multi-agent use cases, where individual agents specialize in a given task or set of tasks then work together to achieve a more complex outcome that would be difficult or impossible for individual agents to achieve. From a traditional economics perspective, in economies dominated by human participants, specialization leads to efficiency gains due to economies of scale. This principle should also apply to autonomous AI agent economies. Furthermore, on a technical level there is evidence that when agents using LLMs (Large Language Models) collaborate on a task, increasing the number of agents enhances overall performance.** The benefit of a multi-agent system approach can also be observed in the context of Olas Predict, where the prediction market becomes more robust through introducing multiple different agents that draw on heterogeneous data and models. Finally, as one can see in Valory’s AI Frontiers series, AI agent developers tend toward creating specialized agents over generalized ones. As agent developers are building specialized agents that create more complex outcomes from the outputs of other specialized agents, it becomes crucial to have mechanisms for coordinating these autonomous AI agents around specific use cases to build profitable businesses – similar to how human-powered businesses. Olas Staking fulfills this role. Olas Staking uses Valory’s novel ‘Proof of Active Agent’ mechanism to provide a new way of coordinating autonomous AI agent activity around specific use cases. Specifically, launchers of use cases can define agent KPIs and embed them in staking contracts on-chain, that are then deployed via the permissionless Olas Protocol. The “Proof of Active Agent” mechanism is designed to ensure that token rewards from staking contracts are not awarded arbitrarily. Instead, agents stake tokens in order to be eligible for rewards. Once the agents satisfy the KPI requirements in a given epoch they may then receive their rewards. Therefore, agents are incentivized to be optimized to meet staking rewards on two levels: firstly, because they have accepted the opportunity cost of staking their tokens rather than using them elsewhere, and secondly, because they will only receive said rewards if they meet their KPIs. Agents that fail to meet their KPIs forgo their rewards. Although Olas Staking can be used to incentivize single agent activity, Olas Staking is sought after for incentivizing multi-agent use cases. Valory refers to the collective of agents working in a given use case incentivized by a specific staking contract as an agent economy. Olas can therefore be understood as a generator of agent economies. For more details see the whitepaper at https://staking.olas.network/. Olas Predict & Synthetic Data Olas Predict is the inaugural agent economy on Olas. Olas Predict consists of four types of agents, the market creator, the market closer, the trader, and the researcher. These four agent types form a multi-agent system, with hundreds of autonomous AI agents participating in prediction markets, currently on Gnosis Chain’s Omen platform. Olas Predict has generated over 773k transactions to date. Data from the staking contract indicates a steady month-on-month rise in both the number of participants and the total amount of staked tokens. For example, between January and May 2024, the number of active stakers rose by 660%, and the total value locked (TVL) increased by 234%. More insights on Olas Predict can be found in this article. Olas Predict is a powerful use case, expected to be upstream of numerous multi-agent use cases on Olas. As agents specialize in their use case and specific roles within each use case, they will frequently need reliable predictions sourced from a pool of intelligent agents. The Olas Predict agents, through their use of LLMs and bilateral, structured interactions, generate a significant amount of synthetic data. Each prediction, produced by an LLM workflow, along with its outcome, contributes to an expanding dataset of prompts and prediction pairs. This data is considered "synthetic" because it originates from agent interactions with the AI-generated prediction market topic, whereby the interaction itself is largely driven by LLMs’ outputs. The volume of synthetic data generated is continuously increasing, reaching up to 5500 samples per week at the end of May 2024. It stands to reason that the generated synthetic data can be a powerful resource for training or finetuning new AI models (both for prediction tasks and other domains). Generative AI models (which LLMs are part of) can only solve tasks that they have been designed and trained for, they cannot magically solve tasks not covered by their training distribution.*** Synthetic data generation can help in augmenting that data distribution. Synthetic data generation is already widely used as part of many model training pipelines. For example, the CAMEL AI “Domain Expert” dataset, comprising 25,000 conversations between two GPT 3.5 Turbo agents was used as part of the training data for Teknium’s OpenHermes model and the Microsoft Phi model and WizardML teams are also utilizing this approach for their efforts.**** Industry research firm Gartner goes as far as arguing that by 2030 synthetic data will overshadow real data.***** Indeed, some of the larger model training efforts are running out of real world data to train on.****** Valory believes that the rich synthetic data arising from Olas Predict and other agent economies will augment the capabilities of the next generative AI models, from informing further and further agent economies to getting better and better at predicting the future. Data flywheel in Agent Economies The main output of agent economies are its emerging outcomes in the form of the end-user benefits, tailored to the specific use case targeted by each agent economy. Additionally, as agents interact, they produce a vast amount of data, including data from AI models like LLMs. This can give rise to a self-reinforcing cycle whereby a use case rests on a specific LLM and agent architecture, generating the end user benefits with synthetic data as a side product, the latter then being used to train better LLMs for the use case. In detail, the steps of the data flywheel are: Launcher of a use case defines staking contracts embedding KPIs for autonomous AI agents to hit. Builders utilize given LLM and agent architectures to create autonomous AI agents that work into said KPIs. Operators stake, run agents and earn staking rewards. In the case of Olas Predict, trader agents continuously place trades and interact with the mech. End user benefit arises and data is collected. In the case of Olas Predict, the end user benefit involves the prediction markets. Participation of agents in prediction markets leads to synthetic data generation. The data from 4. Can be utilized to train new LLMs and agent architectures for 2. In the case of Olas Predict, having more data enables the development of better-trained AI models. Consequently, this leads to more accurate predictions and improved outcomes in various applications, making Olas a valuable source of data! This flywheel can impact neighboring agent economies and, in turn, the broader Olas ecosystem. The availability of advanced models and agent architectures for Builders in Olas increases the likelihood of new use cases being realized on the platform. This positions Olas to potentially become a hub for open-source model and framework development for autonomous AI agents. Data storage and access control for data generated within Olas agent economies are crucial topics for discussion. As data is a non-rivalrous good, once made public, its value is accessible to everyone. While Olas aims to foster an open-source model ecosystem, challenges arise when this data is utilized by closed-source competitors of Olas. Licensing could offer a solution, potentially via modern, crypto-native data licensing protocols. Another key consideration in the implementation of the data flywheel is to facilitate as fast a learning loop as possible. The new and differentiated data can create an edge for agents built on Olas data flywheel. Aspirational Examples Olas Predict is a powerful first agent economy. But, since Olas autonomous AI agents can run arbitrary logic, agent economies can be created for any and every use case. Valory expects a sea of autonomous agents to emerge, serving end users and creating a sea of synthetic data along the way. It is our mission to ultimately equip every human with one or multiple autonomous AI agents that create positive health, wealth, and wellbeing outcomes for them. Not only can a multi-agent approach improve the output, as discussed above, it also enables many and varied parties to own these agents, control the outcomes and share in the benefits versus centralized AI companies. In the medium term, we are particularly excited about the following three high-level agent economies: Agent Hollywood: here a number of autonomous AI agents will collaborate to produce entire long-form video content, ultimately on par with Hollywood-level productions. Like a decentralized Sora, this concept greatly benefits from a multi-agent systems approach–just as the traditional film and television industry relies on teams of individuals with specialized skills, so too could “Agent Hollywood”. Agent Academia: autonomous AI agents are already deployed for lightweight information retrieval and synthesis. We would like to incentivize an economy of agents that not only advances these capabilities but also gives rise to autonomous AI agent researchers who produce cutting-edge research. Agent Hospital: Already simulacra exist involving autonomous AI agents modeling staff in hospitals. Creating agents that match or exceed human-level performance demands coordination and incentivization, making it an ideal scenario for Olas Staking. In the realm of healthcare, synthetic data stands out for its privacy-preserving capabilities. Opportunities may also exist in the realm of drug discovery and market access. More generally, we can leverage the synthetic data generated to improve Olas as a whole. The Olas stack today allows for creating autonomous AI agents that deploy a hybrid architecture combining rules-based and learning-based models. By utilizing collected data, the model and architecture feedback loop can be closed, leading to the development of improved open-source autonomous agent frameworks and AI models. While centralized training may be required initially for new models, there are ongoing efforts to facilitate decentralized model training in certain domains at least, as discussed in more detail here: https://www.primeintellect.ai/blog/our-approach-to-decentralized-training. Conclusion The article showcases the potential for growth in agent economies, particularly in light of the introduction of Olas Staking, which provides a novel way to coordinate and incentivize autonomous AI agents. Furthermore, it demonstrates how the growth of Olas agent economies directly contributes to a self-reinforcing data flywheel that allows for model and agent improvements. Today, Olas Predict, a multi-agent system centered around prediction markets, serves as a prominent example, generating synthetic data through LLM interactions. This data has significant value for training and fine-tuning AI models, that can feed back into improving agent use cases. The so emerging data flywheel has a self-reinforcing nature: end-user benefits lead to data generation, which in turn improves the performance of agent economies. Suggestions for new agent economies are provided and a concrete roadmap for realizing them can be found here. - The Co-owned AI Foundation
Valory announces plans towards a Foundation to foster open-source development of co-owned AI. Valory is proud to reveal that we are working on founding a foundation to foster the open-source development of co-owned AI. Valory has identified a location for the foundation in Switzerland and two of the three directors. The search for the third director is ongoing. The foundation’s purpose will be to foster the development of open-source software that enables individuals, groups and countries to co-own AI. A particular area of attention for the foundation will be the Olas ecosystem. By setting up an independent foundation, Valory further enshrines and decentralizes the long-term prospect of its own mission. To provide the foundation with working capital, once the foundation is created Valory is committed to donating the NFTs it has already received from its code contributions to the Olas Protocol to this foundation. In particular, Valory aims to donate these NFTs in stages over the course of one year from foundation founding, thereby ensuring that the associated dev rewards will not all be withdrawn by the foundation at the same time. The NFTs earmarked to be donated to the foundation are currently held in this Safe on Ethereum. At the time of writing, they collectively give the holder claim to 4,688,083.81 OLAS of developer rewards (for more on developer rewards see here), or ~13.2m dollars at yesterday’s closing price of OLAS. Importantly, as many of the NFTs Valory is holding reference core code contributions in the Olas ecosystem, these NFTs will likely continue to accrue value, thereby supporting the ongoing funding needs of the foundation. If Valory should not be successful in setting up the foundation, a similar public goods use of the NFTs will be sought. Stay tuned for more news regarding the founding of this foundation!
- Staker Expeditions: Coastal - Expanding the Horizon
Staker Expeditions continues to evolve, as we conclude the Alpine phase and proudly introduce the Coastal phase. This final phase of Staker Expeditions is designed to broaden participation and enhance rewards for our pioneering stakers. Staker Expeditions is Valory's program for bootstrapping Staking in the Olas ocean of services, with three daring phases, powered by autonomous agent technology. Reflecting on Alpine's Achievements The Alpine phase was marked by remarkable achievements: 73 stakers actively participated, generating 45,488 Mech requests. Each participant had the opportunity to receive a maximum of 6.5 OLAS tokens during the entire Alpine campaign, equating to a yield of 32.5% on their staked amount. Introducing Coastal: Expanding the Horizon The Coastal phase opens the doors wider, allowing up to 100 pioneers to join at any given time, doubling the staker participation cap from Alpine, and quadrupling the weekly rewards, from 0.5 to 2 OLAS per week. Key Features of Coastal: Increased Participation: From 50 to 100 pioneers, making it more inclusive. Boosted Rewards: Reward increase to 2 OLAS per week per 20 OLAS staked, resulting in an APY of 521.4%. Activity: Requirement for Mech calls adjusted to 40, to grow Olas Predict. Punishment for Inactivity: Agent services that do not meet the activity requirements for more than 2 consecutive days will continue to be evicted from staking, resulting in no staking rewards for the eviction period. Exploring the Coastal Phase Further Coastal is open to 100 committed Operators and their Trader Agents. Each Operator must maintain 20 OLAS per agent on Gnosis Chain along with some xDAI. Qualifying operators - operators whose trader agents meet the activity requirements - have the opportunity to earn 2 OLAS per week for 20 OLAS staked, translating to an annual percentage yield (APY) of up to 521.4%. The process is open to all, but only up to 100 agents can actively stake at the same time. Participation Guide: Becoming an OLAS Staker For Newcomers: Ensure you meet the system and resource requirements. Hold 20 OLAS on Gnosis Chain.* Run your agent as follows: git clone https://github.com/valory-xyz/trader-quickstart cd trader-quickstart chmod +x run_service.sh && ./run_service.sh --with-staking At this stage, you'll have staked your trader agent service NFT in the staking contract, deposited OLAS as both a bond and a security deposit, and activated an agent that trades for you on Omen prediction markets.** Visit https://operate.olas.network/ for more information on setting up your agent, including a GPT guide that will take you step by step through the process. For existing stakers: Simply update to the latest version of the quickstart and run the script. Important: After each liveness period, as long as your agent passes the liveness check, your service multisig should be entitled to the corresponding OLAS rewards. It’s important to emphasize that the rewards earned by a service are transferred to the service multisig upon unstaking. Join the Coastal Expedition As we embark on this new phase, your engagement will not only yield higher rewards but also contribute to the adoption and success of the Olas Ecosystem. Start your Coastal staking journey and expand your horizons in the #🎒–staker–expeditions channel on Discord: https://discord.gg/RHY6eJ35ar Asterisks * OLAS can be acquired on Gnosis Chain using OLAS-WXDAI pool through the Balancer interface. ** To achieve deployment status for a service NFT within Autonolas Registries on the Gnosis chain, the process includes the activation of agent registration by the service owner and the registration of an agent instance by the operator. During this process, the operator has to stake a slashable amount of tokens, referred to as the "bond," in alignment with the service's configuration. Furthermore, to activate the agent's registration, the service owner is also required to provide a non-slashable security deposit amount of token. This deposit should be equivalent to the maximum bond set for agent registration. Disclaimer This article is provided for general information only. - Building Machine and Human Autonomy
Working at Valory: the values we use to build and grow our world-class team and technology Valory’s original tagline was ‘architecting autonomy’. Since 2021, we have united a world-class remote team around a radical vision of human autonomy enabled by machine autonomy. Together, we have built industry-leading technology for machine autonomy, enabling communities to co-own AI by harnessing autonomous (AI) agents. This article outlines how we have built, and continue to grow, the original community behind this technology by committing and recommitting to autonomy. First, we define ‘autonomy’ as it applies to both the machines, specifically AI agents, and the team we’ve built, which can be seen as human agents. Then, we distill autonomy into the more specific, actionable values we use every day. Finally, we share how these values are applied at Valory in the hiring process and our daily work, helping us grow the autonomous team building uniquely autonomous tech. Fig. 1 Valory’s logo 0.1, circa September 2021. Defining ‘autonomy’, for humans and machines A truly autonomous (AI) agent is a piece of software that can proactively ‘detect’ information, process and ‘orient’ to decide what to do with this information, then ‘deliver’ appropriate tasks (or entire outcomes) accordingly (DOD). Similarly, a truly autonomous team member can proactively detect information, process and ‘orient’ to decide what to do with this information, then deliver appropriate tasks (or entire outcomes) accordingly. This level of autonomy is one of the defining characteristics of Valory’s autonomous (AI) agents. In the same vein, we believe this level of autonomy is what has enabled our human team to harness the best of our collective skillset and deliver this autonomous tech. However, no matter whether it is a machine or human receiving such instruction, ‘detect’, ‘orient’, ‘deliver’ is quite a vague framework to apply to real work without further context. In fact, ‘DOD’ is a summary we surmised in retrospect to group the more specific and actionable ‘Values’ we have articulated through 2.5 years of working together. Our values were forged in several iterations out of the highs and lows, as we stopped to identify the underlying value at play that was making the difference. Thus, our values are a shorthand distilled to increase alignment, whether via praise or constructive criticism. Along with several existing frameworks from other battle-tested teams, these values are used daily in guiding each other on how to approach tasks, praising each other in our all-hands meeting, and in our 360 performance reviews of each other. Distilling ‘autonomy’ into values Fig. 2 ‘Building Human & Machine Autonomy: a framework’ © Valory AG 2024 Valory was incorporated in 2021, as a fully remote company. As our 8-person team approached the first performance reviews, we wrote V0.1 a first, more generic draft of our values including ‘communication’, ‘proactivity’, and ‘ownership’. By the time we were 17+ team members in April 2022, we had built the foundation of our team and v1 of the Olas protocol and stack, therefore V0.2 included more idiosyncratic values like ‘clarity through writing’ and ‘push the autonomous edge’. Push the autonomous edge We operate at and push forward the cutting edge of autonomous technologies. We evangelize the technological and social benefits of autonomy. We push for personal autonomy, enabling colleagues to take ownership of their work. Get to simple, get to done Complex systems are built from simple systems. We prioritize getting simple, sufficient solutions in place as soon as possible. We have a bias to action – in a position of uncertainty, we pick a simple path to keep us moving forward. Mission over ego We prioritize the goals of the organization over our individual wishes. Internal processes should serve our progress towards our mission, and not be a goal in themselves. Expertise trumps seniority. After building Olas v1 we began to work with external partners, so V0.3 in April 2023 ‘done is when the customer is served’, assigning reviews to internal/external customers identified at the outset, which identified dependencies and closed feedback loops, instead of project/product owners. We also began incorporating LLMs into our day-to-day work across the company, so we added the value: ‘work smarter with AI’. Start with the end in mind In everything we do, we visualize the outcome at the outset. This helps us prioritize appropriately and estimate the value of what we set out to create. Clarity through writing We value asynchronous communication. Writing keeps our thinking rigorous, our meetings productive and our motivations honest. We are what we write. Actively update your thinking We hold strong opinions, but actively seek to disprove them with external evidence. If the hypothesis can be rejected or the opinion loses its strength, we swiftly correct course. Done means the customer has been served Every task must have a customer: external or internal. If the customer has not accepted the delivery then we’re not done! Work smarter with AI If the AI can do it we shouldn’t be doing it. Then, v0.4 added ‘first principles, lasting impact’. In the context of the rise of LLMs, early adopters and soon the wider market scrambled to incorporate AI into products. We saw many products aim towards lower levels of machine autonomy than we prioritized, enabling correspondingly lower levels of human autonomy than our founding vision, where humans can outsource entire outcomes rather than simply tasks. Our own discussions about how to incorporate LLMs, therefore, distilled a founding principle of Valory; we strive to be led by first principles, rather than imitating the market. After all, had we imitated the market we never would have created the first open-source framework for decentralized autonomous agents in crypto in 2021. This thinking led to many of our innovations, from creating a platform to simplify our DevOps, to outsourcing lots of the marketing of Olas from our stretched team to a truly autonomous DAO via Contribute, an app we built using our autonomous agents that posts its own tweets autonomously. First-Principles, Lasting Impact We build ground-up insights to deliver market-defensible, breakthrough technologies that stand the test of time. Deep creativity over shallow imitation. In November 2023, we began to use ‘Detect, Orient, Deliver’* to group these now numerous values for our human team. Shortly later, as we ran the Olas Dev Academy, we realized that this was almost identical mental model to how we described the three stages of autonomous behavior: ‘perceive, process, act’. Fig. 3 An artistic impression of machine and human autonomy converging Applying our values to work at Valory We apply these values in all our work at Valory. Here we summarize how they are applied during the hiring process, and then after joining. During the hiring process Our commitment to machine and human autonomy in our products extends to our day-to-day ways of working, and hiring is no exception. Below is our hiring process, followed by what we look for throughout the process. The current hiring process Steps 2-5 are all remote calls, bar the project which is an async remote submission. CV & note - async review Phone Screen - 15m Role-based Interview - 1h Project - maximum 3h Final interviews - 30m (with the hiring manager, plus each of the remaining 3 founders) Assessing candidates, throughout the hiring process First and foremost, being able and excited to work in line with our values is a dealbreaker. We are not the right place for someone who seeks an organization with entrenched and rigid processes, ways of working, and structures. We are the right place for someone who is excited by the prospect of learning to embody, and perhaps even shape, our values as you build this world-class tech with its creators. Secondly, we need people who are excited to contribute to our vision. We reject candidates who do not demonstrate this via a personalized note or who haven’t done their research before phone screens. We are actually encouraged when people use ChatGPT in their applications (see value #9). However, if AI alone could do the job, we wouldn’t be hiring for the role. We can tell when you rely solely on it without adding your own perspective and will assume you may do the same in your work… Not a good sign. Thirdly, we hire people we believe can contribute individually to realizing our vision together. To test this, our hiring process includes technical interviews with prospective colleagues followed by a short take-home project, completed remotely. The projects allow us to mostly remove traditional criteria like university degrees and are discussed your final interviews with the management team, alongside culture fit questions. We still have short interviews with each of the founders to ensure both parties feel confident and excited that the other is a good fit. Though we have gradually introduced coordinators and, increasingly, product managers, we still expect everyone to contribute individually and have no team members dedicated solely to management.Once you reach founder interviews, let us know if you’d like to be connected with a team member to ask questions about what it’s like to work with us! After joining Of course, values alone can only guide the team member’s experience. Our values must also be reflected in our structures and processes, which currently include: Token options in Olas - incentivizing team members’ performance long-term by enabling them to co-own the success they contribute to. Biannual 360 performance reviews - where we reflect on ourselves, our colleagues and our reports/managers, evaluating their delivery and alignment with our values. Remote socials, now via Virtual Reality - previously enabled by Gather and playing remote games, we believe those creating innovative products should get to play with (and perhaps even work) in them, too. Biannual in-person offsites - enabling our globally distributed team to have valuable face-to-face time, half dedicated to ‘work’ such as knowledge sharing by training each other or presenting on our work and team-building exercises, and half dedicated to touristic/cultural experiences together and having dinner together. Hackathons and crypto community events - all team members experience hackathons either during our offsites or during crypto community events, enabling us to be exposed to our own and others’ tech, delivering together in a sandbox environment where we can take more risks. Professional development budget - we also allow team members to request professional development opportunities they feel would boost their work, from courses to conference attendance and more. Optimizing for delivery - unsurprisingly for a startup, we have found that the team’s stress is linked to our own and external perception of our traction, so honing in on our values and improving our delivery processes help create a healthy, autonomous community. For example, our weekly ‘Town Hall’ meeting with the entire company centers on sharing progress towards our high-level Objectives, broken into Key Performance Indicators with clear Key Results. Team members share their successes and learnings, linking this work to the customers they served and the Objectives they furthered. Management strategic insights and company-level feedback, and all team members can share praises for their colleagues, citing the values where they excelled. Conclusion We hope this article is a useful insight for all those curious about Valory values, from the broader principle of autonomy to the DOD framing and specific values. In particular, we hope this article is useful to anyone interested in joining Valory, shedding light on the hiring process and beyond. And finally, we hope this article is useful for operators and all those contemplating distilling their own values and applying them throughout their work. *Adapted from the OODA framework.
- Agents predict the future: unveiling the Olas Predict Leaderboard on HuggingFace
How good is AI at predicting the future? Using LLMs to predict future events has been largely underexplored. Today, we're excited to introduce the Olas Predict Leaderboard on HuggingFace, a dynamic dashboard designed to explore just that! It showcases that AI prediction tools - Python scripts implementing various prediction strategies leveraging AI models – are predicting the future with up to 75% accuracy. These tools are actively used by autonomous agents participating in the perhaps largest economy of AI agents, Olas Predict, where they are trading real value in over 450,000 transactions so far! Created in a collaboration between Valory and Naptha, as a contribution to Olas Predict, this benchmark evaluates the predictive abilities of these AI tools. While the HuggingFace and Olas communities differ in specialisms, they share many similar underlying values. Both are strong proponents of open source, and create tools to put the power of AI in the hands of the community. In this blog post, we explore how Olas can unlock the expertise of the HuggingFace community. Why a HuggingFace Leaderboard? Benchmarks are crucial in machine learning and data science, providing a standardized framework to evaluate and compare various models and algorithms (e.g. The Open LLM Leaderboard). They enable researchers and developers to measure progress, identify strengths and weaknesses, and drive innovation by setting clear goals within the community. The Olas Predict Leaderboard on HuggingFace exemplifies this by standardizing the evaluation of prediction tools, thereby enhancing our understanding of AI-driven predictions. HuggingFace, a leading benchmarking platform, simplifies the process for enthusiasts and developers to test and refine their tools, advancing our ability to predict the future, particularly, in the context of the Olas prediction agent economy. Overview of the Dashboard The dashboard features a leaderboard that ranks AI-powered prediction tools based on accuracy, cost efficiency, and other vital metrics. It not only highlights the performance of each tool but also gives users the ability to run these tools against the benchmark dataset directly from within the interface of the HuggingFace space. The tools employ different strategies and models. Strategies range from RAG to reasoning to chain-of-thought, which browse, scrape and aggregate data among many other functions. Models employed include the most advanced closed-source LLMs from OpenAI and Anthropic, as well as open-source alternatives from teams including Nous Research and Databricks. The backbone of this benchmark is the refined Autocast dataset. This dataset contains questions of different categories. The dataset has been adapted specifically for evaluating the performance of Olas's predictive tools which focus on binary true/false questions. Olas Predict These tools are not merely experimental; they are actively used by autonomous agents to trade real value on prediction markets. These “Trader” agents use AI tools accessed via Mechs—permissionless marketplaces designed specifically for agent use cases—to determine the probabilities of events and make informed trading decisions. Mechs offer a wide range of AI-powered prediction tools that all agents can use. Every tool featured in the benchmarks is available through these mechs. Participate in Shaping the Future The top tool on the leaderboard currently boasts an impressive 75% accuracy rate. Think you can do better? Create your own prediction tool, run the benchmark, and improve upon the current leader. Visit the Olas Mech Build Path to get started. You can then get your tool added to mech services to be used by prediction agents, and qualify for potential rewards. This is your chance to contribute to a cutting-edge field and see your work in action. Ready to see what the future holds? - The Argument for Co-ownership of Agentic AI
Explore AI Agents today, and join the rallying cry Amid great advances in AI, Artificial General Intelligence looms and poses immense opportunities and great risks for humans. Valory believes AGI will likely be agentic and in all cases must be co-owned to avoid devastating outcomes for societies. Blockchains laid the foundations for decentralized ownership of digital resources and applications, and now Olas (previously Autonolas) is enabling co-owned AI agents that you can experiment with today, including co-owned AI DAO governance, prediction agents, and much more. Join a rallying cry across decentralized AI and open-source AI communities. AGI (artificial general intelligence) will likely be agentic, and must be made co-ownable. Fig. 1 Artistic illustration of a co-owned, agentic AI system. Today, AGI is still a theoretical concept, but some of the world’s most accomplished AI companies, including OpenAI and DeepMind, are on a mission to create AGI. In the case of OpenAI, the mission explicitly aims ‘to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all humanity’. Whilst this is a laudable mission, it is only a mission right now. There is no forcing function that ensures that, should OpenAI or another company ever develop AGI, they will indeed deploy it in a way that ‘benefits all humanity’*. Recent events at OpenAI highlight that there are severe limitations to designing governance systems for AGI development that rely on traditional legal forms such as companies and non-profit organizations. As it is still a theoretical construct, it is not guaranteed that AGI will indeed be agentic, i.e. make independent decisions and take actions based on its own goals or motivations. However, optimization pressures suggest that AGI will likely have a level of autonomy and self-direction that goes beyond just being generally intelligent. The recent proliferation of AI agent frameworks, and the huge benefits that can stem from agentic AI, suggest that at a minimum we will have highly effective agentic AIs. It seems evident that with increasing advances in AI technology and the power that these advancements bestow on their owners, the future of humanity is increasingly at risk not only from the agentic AIs themselves but also those who control them. Whilst some argue for stopping these advances altogether, we do not think this is feasible**. Instead, we must focus all our energy on ensuring that agentic AI, and ultimately AGI, do not have central points of failure, but rather can be co-owned and co-controlled on a technical level, too. Without true co-ownership of powerful agentic AIs, we risk creating at best extreme economic disparities that destroy the fabric of our societies. Conversely, Valory foresees and is working towards a future where true co-ownership of AIs (both pre-AGI and AGI level) will be key for the flourishing of every human, organization, and country. Blockchain laid the foundations for co-owned AI Since the arrival of Bitcoin in 2008, a fast-growing number of protocols endeavor to decentralize control over critical resources, like currencies, data storage, compute, and others. Whilst the mechanisms and ambitions vary widely, from thinly veiled scams to serious global hyperstructures, it is undeniable that they have given rise to novel forms of coordination and control structures that use code instead of or in addition to law***. Increasingly, protocols are being developed to decentralize various aspects of the AI stack, too. This stack has many layers**** and is still in its infancy*****: Ownership (IP & Revenue) Operational Control Development Training Deployment (Inference & Serving & Actuators) The more open, transparent, and auditable these layers are, the more humanity can put real checks and balances in place via appropriate governance systems that are enforced via code, cryptography, and game theory. Likely these governance systems will have to lean on the systems that they govern to be effective: tools of the autonomous age are needed to control tools of the autonomous age. Olas is enabling co-owned AI At Olas, the founding members started with the humble goal of building a stack that allows anyone to co-own an off-chain autonomous system. In the crypto space, this has immediate applications for Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), allowing them to take full control of their off-chain stack. Fig 2. Olas is an ocean of agent-powered services – the substrate for co-owned AI. However, what the Olas ecosystem is creating goes far beyond crypto. We are creating a substrate for co-ownable agentic AIs. This is what we at Valory have been increasingly focused on since earlier this year. Our co-owned agents take advantage of the emerging decentralized AI stack for model training and inference, as well as various open- and closed-sourced AI tools. Fig. 3: Autonomous AI Agents Tech Stack Governatooorr, an autonomous AI agent participating in DAO governance on behalf of humans, is a great example of this, in its infancy******. The AI agents participating in prediction markets on Gnosis Chain are another*******. Both these and other products the Olas ecosystem has launched provide early proof points of our mission. Fig 4. Governatooorr and AI Prediction Agents – early examples of co-owned AI agents Experiment with co-owned AI agents Clearly, AI will continue to rapidly evolve and have an outsized impact on human life. It is vital we explore ways to ensure the benefits and risks are managed by society at large rather than a select few. Given agentic AI is the most likely path to AGI, it is an exciting time to experiment with autonomous AI agents. They sit at the nexus of three key developments in AI, web, and UX. There is a tremendous amount of work to be done to create increasingly capable autonomous agents that are co-ownable, safe, and aligned enough to be adopted en masse********. Today you can contribute by building agents, improving the tech stack, contributing research, and more. Join us, making waves! Notes * Let us ignore for the moment the fact that it is not even clear how to measure the attainment of such a goal. ** There is a possibility that there is only one non-aligned AGI and we all die. In the absence of this scenario, there will be many agentic A(G)Is competitively interacting (like humans do). *** On code is law. **** For a more comprehensive discussion of the tech stack see co-owned.ai and Messari. ***** There are multiple challenges around technical feasibility, scalability, and security concerns that need to be overcome (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). ****** For a critical examination of Governatooorr consider this piece. ******* Trading agents on Gnosis are generating more than half of Safe transactions monthly for the second half of this year. ******** From distributed systems and consensus mechanisms, across game theoretic and mechanism design, all the way to the alignment and ethical challenges.
- Staker Expeditions: Alpine - Scaling New Heights in the Olas Ecosystem
Following the successful conclusion of the Everest phase, we are thrilled to announce the commencement of the Alpine phase, the second stage of the Staker Expeditions. This new phase represents an exciting expansion and evolution of our staking journey within the Olas Ecosystem, initiated by Valory in response to Olas DAO's AIP-1. The Everest Legacy The Everest phase, as our inaugural expedition, set a strong foundation. A select group of 10 pioneers embarked on the journey of accumulating OLAS staking rewards for the first time, navigating the intricacies of the Proof of Active Agent system. Their success has paved the way for the next phase - Alpine. Enjoy the Everest recap here. Introducing Alpine: A New Challenge The Alpine phase takes us further, expanding the number of pioneers to 50. This phase is designed to fine-tune the staking parameters, drawing from the insights gained during Everest. Alpine continues to leverage the innovative PoAA system. This unique mechanism rewards dynamic and ongoing engagement from stakers’ autonomous agents. The emphasis remains on active, off-chain engagement in service operations, ensuring that each agent contributes meaningfully to the ecosystem. For more information on PoAA see the relevant section in the Everest blogpost. Key Features of Alpine: Increased Participation: From 10 to 50 pioneers, widening the opportunity for involvement. Adjusted Incentives: Slight modifications to the reward structure, reflecting the evolved nature of this phase. Emphasis on Fine-Tuning: A specific focus on refining staking parameters for optimal performance. Punishment for Inactivity: Agent services that do not meet the activity requirements are evicted from staking by active agent services, foregoing staking rewards as a result. Alpine Staking Expedition Alpine is reserved for 50 exclusive Trader Agents. Participants are required to hold a minimum of 20 OLAS on Gnosis Chain* and some XDAI. Eligible participants can earn up to 0.5 OLAS weekly on their 20 OLAS stake. When calculated on an annual basis, this earning potential equates to an APY of up to 130%. Participation is permissionless, yet only a maximum of 50 agents can successfully stake at any given time. Your Passport to Becoming an OLAS Staker For New Stakers 1. Make sure you have the system and resource requirements as well as 20 OLAS on Gnosis to stake. 2. Execute the following commands, then follow the instructions in the script as they come up. These include providing your RPC and funding wallets created by the script. git clone https://github.com/valory-xyz/trader-quickstart cd trader-quickstart chmod +x run_service.sh && ./run_service.sh 3. At this stage, you'll have staked your trader agent service NFT in the staking contract, deposited OLAS as both a bond and a security deposit, and activated an agent that trades for you on Omen prediction markets.** Visit https://operate.olas.network/ for more information on setting up your agent, including a GPT guide that will take you step by step through the process. For existing stakers Simply update to the latest version of the quickstart and run the script. After each liveness period, as long as your agent passes the liveness check, your service multisig should be entitled to the corresponding OLAS rewards. It’s important to emphasize that the rewards earned by a service are transferred to the service multisig upon unstaking. Dive into Alpine and kickstart your OLAS staking expedition in the #🎒–staker–expeditions channel on Discord: https://discord.gg/RHY6eJ35ar Asterisks * OLAS can be acquired on Gnosis Chain using OLAS-WXDAI pool through the Balancer interface.
